ENGAGEMENT, CONCEPT, SUSTAINABILITY

I am for art that ENGAGES the senses. Visually engaging means aesthetically pleasing or beautiful but also engagement on a visual level, which may be disturbing, uncomfortable or even ugly. Tactile qualities, experiential /participatory acts, or auditory elements engage additional senses. Above all I want to be attracted, intrigued, or drawn into the work.

I am for work that marries CONCEPT to object. Art is a form of communication and should ask questions, engender reflection, and consideration of ideas through a different lens. I want to come away with a sense of having gained intellectually and been shown something I had not seen before.

SUSTAINABILITY is inherent in good art. The work endures over time; engaging the viewer now and in the future. I believe art should demonstrate sustainable practice in the materials used, techniques employed, and be well crafted.
